DO I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION NOW?

For months the message that the world has sent us all has been that “THE TIME IS NOW”. Time to put dreams into motion, to live the life you’ve always wanted, to gain more knowledge, to become more self-sufficient, to build or rebuild relationships, to heal, to love more, to walk in your space with purpose, to fight, facilitate and promote change but did that not get you attention? Is it possible that the Universe/God was sending a message that now has to progress in the occurrence of events because we didn’t get the first one? The challenge here is not to question your beliefs but to possibly influence tapping in or connecting to that which gives you spiritual energy. Often times we miss the message or don’t get what we ask for because we are too busy focusing on other stuff. Let me make this more personal and speak about my own community for a moment. What happened in our country to George Floyd and many other Black men and women, is/was a terrible unjust occurrence. It was a wrong that affected each and every one of us and the country responded including this community with frustration, furiousness, demanding to be heard and immediate change. It was exhibited through marching, peaceful protest, rioting, and looting even here until things spun out of control and a young lady’s life, within our very own community, was insensibly taken. Was that enough to get our attention?

If not then what about when a precious 10 year old baby girl went missing said to be by the hands of someone close to her, like a father, and the community came together to search for her daily. Her disappearance raised the issue of known predators being present, right here, in our very own families and communities that required not only our attention but action so that history could not repeat itself for another child. Was that enough to get our attention?

If not then what about a recent incident that took a young man’s life whose only intent when he woke up that morning was to pay respects and celebrate his son’s. It was a celebration of a young HERO turned into a tragedy all because another young man who, known by family and community members for his said violent behavior, decided he was going to attend a funeral and senselessly take a father from the rest of his children, forcing that same family to have to plan and carry out yet another funeral service. Was that enough to get our attention?

Do I have your attention NOW? A message that seems to be piercing our earlobes, eyes, hearts, and behaviors if only we would focus in. What else will it take for us to get the message that healing, restoration, growth, progression and CHANGE starts with US? OUR communities, OUR lives, OUR families, OUR kids, OUR change is OUR responsibility. We cannot be silent anymore as the exposure of one exposes us all. THE TIME IS NOW to speak up about the unjust treatment we have experienced at great extremes and that we impose on one another as well. We cannot accept racism or police brutality nor can we accept the infliction of violent behavior on one another. We cannot accept inappropriate behaviors or sexual assault on a child nor can we allow each other to be quiet about a predator’s existence in our families and communities. We cannot accept anyone unfairly killing US nor can we accept unfairly killing each other. We cannot, We CAN NOT! How many more incidents have to happen before we understand that no one is going to do the work for us WE have to do it ourselves? What has to happen before we focus on the message? Chaos, turmoil, sickness, violence and death are right at our front doors and the question that’s being asked is DO I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION NOW?
